ELATT Sixth Form: Support, Structure and Your Next Step

Starting sixth form is an exciting transition, and it’s natural to want to know what it will actually feel like day to day, not just what’s written in a prospectus. At ELATT Sixth Form in Hackney, we’ve built our programme around the understanding of every young person learns best when they feel safe, supported, and understood. Here’s what that looks like in practice.

Who Sixth Form at ELATT is for

Our Sixth Form is for young people aged 16 to 18, or 19 to 24 with an active Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). Many of our students haven’t thrived in mainstream school, have had a break in education, or are moving on from a specialist setting. Whatever your starting point, we tailor your programme to where you are now, not where you “should” be.

Before you join, we take the time to properly understand you through an initial conversation and assessment, so we can place you on the level and pathway that’s right for you from day one.

Small, calm classes built around you

Our classes are small, and our teaching is trauma-aware, which means our tutors and support team understand that anxiety, past experiences, or a difficult relationship with education can affect how someone learns, and they teach accordingly.

That calm, structured environment is how every class is run. Learners build real-world skills in digital, business, and creative subjects, alongside English, Maths and personal and social development, in a setting designed to help you focus and grow in confidence, not feel overwhelmed.

Support that's genuinely tailored to you

We welcome applications from young people with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities), and we build support around each individual rather than offering a one-size-fits-all package. In practice, this includes:

  • Close, in-class support from tutors and learning support staff, embedded naturally so it never feels singled out
  • Flexible engagement, so if anxiety or ill health means you need to adjust your attendance or pace for a while, we’ll work with you on a plan to rebuild towards full engagement
  • Continuous enrolment, meaning you can join during the year rather than waiting, so you spend less time out of education
  • Access to specialists where needed, including an Emotional Literacy Support Assistant or key worker, an Employability Adviser, Speech and Language Therapy, and Educational Psychology

We commonly support young people with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and mental-health-related barriers to learning, and our approach is designed so that support feels like part of the community, not something that sets you apart from it.

A safe place for parents and carers too

If you’re a parent or carer, we know how much overwhelm can come with navigating SEND services and finding the right setting. Our aim is to be a genuine partner, with clear communication, structured pathways, and a team who understands your child’s needs and strengths to build on.

Building skills that lead somewhere

Everything we teach is designed to connect to a real next step. Whether you’re drawn to digital, business, or creative subjects, your learning is shaped around the skills employers and further education providers actually look for, not just exam requirements.

Careers support is woven through the whole programme too, from employer visits to one-to-one guidance, helping you build a clear, realistic plan for what comes after ELATT.
