Professional Development – Entry 3 to Level 2 Award (Beginner to Intermediate)

Learn real job-search and workplace skills with a free, recognised qualification, built into every ELATT course in London.

Overview

Build the Skills That Help You Get Job-Ready

Professional Development is a core part of every ELATT vocational programme. You don’t apply for it separately – from the start of your course, you’ll have dedicated employability sessions alongside your vocational learning, and you’ll work towards a nationally recognised Gateway Qualifications Award in Employability Skills.

The level you study at, Entry 3, Level 1 or Level 2, will be matched to your needs and English language level when you join. You’re welcome to let us know which level you’re aiming for, and we’ll take that into account alongside your initial assessment.

Across the programme you’ll cover topics including planning your career, researching and applying for jobs, writing a strong CV, interview skills, and the professional behaviours employers value. You’ll leave with both a qualification and the practical tools to use it.

You’ll be supported throughout by our dedicated Careers Service, with opportunities to speak to industry professionals, access mentoring, find volunteering placements, and gain work experience. When you’re ready to actively job, you can also apply for one-to-one support from one of our employability advisers.

Sessions are delivered online, in small groups, over 16 weeks, and are assessed through a portfolio of evidence rather than exams, so there’s no extra pressure alongside your main coursework. It’s included at no extra cost as part of your ELATT course.

If you don’t have prior experience, don’t worry!
We offer preparatory courses and support to help you build the foundational skills needed for Level 3.

Alongside your vocational course, you will also have the opportunity to earn additional free qualifications to strengthen your CV and employability. These are matched to your level and confirmed after a short skills assessment when you join. They may include Functional Skills English, Functional Skills Maths, Professional Development and Digital Skills. Not everyone will study all four. Your programme will be tailored to what you need. For more details, visit the Adult Study Programme page.

This course has helped me a lot. Before I used to be worried about applying for work as I thought I would get rejected. Now I have much more confidence. I made new friends and I am able to communicate with others with greater confidence. I am now working in a job that I enjoy very much.

What is the Professional Development qualification at ELATT?

It's a recognised Gateway Qualifications Award. It covers job-search skills and workplace habits, at Entry 3, Level 1 and Level 2. It's built into every ELATT vocational course, so you work towards it alongside your main qualification.

Is Professional Development included for free with my ELATT course?

Yes. It's included at no extra cost, as part of your vocational course. Your course fees are themselves free for eligible adult learners in London.

What levels of Professional Development does ELATT offer?

ELATT offers Entry 3, Level 1 and Level 2 Awards. Your level is matched to your English and how ready you are when you join.

Do I need any experience or qualifications to take part in Professional Development?

No. You don't need any experience or separate qualifications. Your starting level is decided through your ELATT assessment, not by anything you prepare in advance.

Do I need to sit any exams for Professional Development?

No. It's assessed through a portfolio of work you build during your course. There are no formal exams.

How long does Professional Development take to complete?

Each level runs for 16 weeks, alongside your main vocational course.

What will I be able to do after completing Professional Development?

You'll leave with real CV, application and interview skills, alongside a recognised qualification. These skills help you with job searching, apprenticeships or further study, whatever direction your main course takes you.

Is there any support beyond Professional Development itself?

Yes. Alongside Professional Development, your course may also include other subjects matched to your needs, such as Functional Skills English, Functional Skills Maths or Digital Skills. Each one leads to its own recognised qualification. You'll also get full access to our Careers Service (CV support, interview preparation and one-to-one advice) and our Wellbeing Service, both at no extra cost.
