Four New Free Courses at ELATT: Health and Social Care, Hospitality, Early Years and Youth Work

This September, ELATT is launching four new free, fully funded courses in health and social care, hospitality, early years and youth work, as part of our Adult Study Programme and backed by the Mayor of London. If you’ve been thinking about a change, now is a good time to start.

Whether you are out of work, changing careers, or coming back to education after a break, here’s what’s new, why these four areas matter right now, and how to apply.

What's new at ELATT this September

We’re introducing four new vocational courses:

  • Health and Social Care
  • Hospitality and Catering
  • Early Years
  • Youth Work

Each course sits within our Adult Study Programme. So alongside your main course, you’ll also get extra support matched to your level, following a short assessment when you join. This might include help with English, maths, digital skills or professional development, and you’ll earn a recognised qualification in each subject you study. It all adds up to a stronger CV and more confidence by the time you finish.

Why these four courses?

These courses are recognised as high-growth, high-demand sectors in London’s economic development, identified within the London Growth Plan and Inclusive Talent Strategy.

Our courses train people directly for these priority growth sectors, and give you a genuine, supported route into in-demand work across London. Whichever course you choose, you are building skills that London’s employers are actively looking for right now, not just a certificate to file away.

A closer look at each course

Health and Social Care (Level 1 and Level 2)

If you want a career that makes a real difference to people’s lives, this is a great place to start. Level 1 gives you a gentle introduction to the care sector. Level 2 goes further, with a work placement in a care setting, so you leave with real, hands-on experience as well as a qualification.

You don’t need any previous knowledge of care work to join. By the end, you could be moving into roles like care assistant or support worker, with the chance to keep progressing from there.

Career potential: As a care assistant or support worker, you can earn up to around £25,000 a year in London with experience.

Hospitality and Catering (Level 1)

London’s hospitality industry is one of the biggest in the city, and it’s always looking for friendly, reliable people. This course gives you a clear introduction to how the industry works, what great customer service looks like, and the food safety knowledge every hospitality worker needs.

You don’t need any experience to get started, just a positive attitude and a willingness to learn. It’s a great fit if you enjoy working with people and want a way into cafés, restaurants, hotels or catering.

Career potential: As a café or front of house assistant, you can expect to earn around £22,000 to £24,000 a year in London, with opportunities to progress into supervisory and specialist roles with experience.

Early Years (Level 1 and Level 2)

Perfect if you love working with children and want to build a career in childcare or education. Level 1 introduces you to the wider care and children’s settings sector. Level 2 focuses specifically on child development, play and safeguarding, and includes hands-on placement experience in an early years setting and a primary school. Again, no previous experience is needed to begin, just an interest in working with children.

Career potential: As a nursery assistant or classroom assistant, you can earn up to around £26,000 a year in London with experience.

Youth Work (Level 2 and Level 3)

Youth Work is for anyone who wants to support and guide young people through the ups and downs of growing up. You’ll learn how to build trust, communicate well, and support young people’s personal development, along with a work placement to put your learning into practice.

Level 2 is the perfect starting point if you’re new to the sector. If you already have some experience, Level 3 builds on that with more depth, preparing you for more senior roles.

Career potential: As an entry-level youth worker, you can earn up to around £28,000 a year in London with experience.
