Lifelong Learning Week 2023: ELATT's Four Decades of Transformative Education

This week is Lifelong Learning Week 2023, and ELATT is now thinking about a significant milestone – 40 years of delivering education that transcends the individual and enriches entire communities. Lifelong Learning Week highlights the importance of education as a lifelong pursuit—a principle that has been at the heart of ELATT’s mission since its beginning, marking a 40-year legacy of inclusive, transformative learning for all ages.

At ELATT, we see education as a continuous journey. Our approach extends beyond academic achievement; it’s about providing a supportive, inclusive environment where every student can flourish. As we head towards our 40th anniversary, we reflect on the lives we’ve influenced and the obstacles we’ve helped overcome. Our Sixth Form department provides a stepping stone for young minds keen to explore and shape their futures, while our adult education programmes ensure that learning continues, offering opportunities for growth, change, and progression at every stage of life.

The stories of our students are a testament to the power of lifelong learning. Salma, now an Office Administrator, shares, “This course has helped me a lot. Before, I used to worry about applying for work as I thought I would get rejected. Now I have much more confidence. I made new friends and I am able to communicate with others with greater confidence. I am now working in a job that I enjoy very much.”

Similarly, Charles, who has advanced to the role of IT Manager, reflects, “Now I know that I can study and work and achieve great things, I am striving to achieve more professional qualifications so that I can continually do well in my career. I have learnt so much and I will apply all my expertise to my new job where I will be managing the IT networks at the Royal Hospital Chelsea.”

For nearly four decades, ELATT has been more than a place of learning; it has been a catalyst for change. We recognise that when one person learns, the effect does not stop with them—it ripples out to their family, friends, and the wider community. And so we celebrate not just the individual achievements of our students but also their broader impact. Lifelong Learning Week is an opportunity to reflect on this enduring legacy and to look forward to the future of education.

From essential skills to advanced vocational training, we’ve dedicated ourselves to providing resources that support career success and lifelong learning benefits. Our courses are carefully designed to meet the lifelong learning goals of our students, ensuring they remain competitive and fulfilled in a rapidly evolving world. ELATT is more than an institution; it’s a community that evolves with its students, offering a range of courses that adapt to the changing landscape of education and the workforce.
