ELATT Sixth Form Celebration at UBS

Celebrating a Year of Learning, Growth, and Success

At ELATT, education is about more than passing exams; it is about building confidence, exploring creativity, and belonging to a community that believes in every learner. This July, we brought those values to life at our annual Sixth Form Student Celebration.

This year’s event was generously hosted by our industry partner UBS at their London headquarters. The day was filled with moments of pride, inspiring guest talks, and the support of our valued partners, including UBS, Mimecast, and Structure Tone UK.

Student Achievements and Awards

Our Sixth Form students have worked tirelessly this year, achieving qualifications across Business Administration, Software Development, Creative Media, Games Design, Computer Engineering, and Functional Skills in Maths and English, and Personal and Social Development. Their achievements reflect not only academic ability but also resilience, determination, and personal growth.

Each student took to the stage to receive their Certificate of Achievement, a moment that captured the pride of their hard work and progress. One of the most memorable moments was the presentation of the Mimecast Student Resilience Award to Mayssan El Bekri, presented by Jennifer Odogwu, Head of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Mimecast. This award celebrates a student whose courage, perseverance, and progress stood out during the year, inspiring the whole ELATT community.

Creative Showcase: 900 Feet Up and Student Media

The celebration was also an opportunity to showcase the exceptional creativity of our students. Media showreels and project highlights from our Creative Media and Games Design courses demonstrated skills in film, animation, and storytelling.

We were also proud to premiere the trailer for 900 Feet Up, a short film produced by Odd Eyes Theatre in partnership with ELATT and the Civil Aviation Authority as part of our Project Elevate initiative. This short film gave our students their first professional acting experience, with lead roles filmed beneath the historic arches where Alliott Verdon Roe made the first all-British powered flight in 1909.

Space in the Community: EPQ Presentations at UBS

We also celebrated the success of students involved in the Space in the Community project, which includes an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) supported by UBS.

UBS volunteers mentored our students throughout the process and hosted a presentation event at their offices, where students shared their research and creative ideas on space exploration, sustainability, and innovation.

This project not only developed academic and research skills but also gave students the opportunity to present to professionals in a corporate setting, offering an invaluable boost to their confidence and employability.

Partnership and Industry Involvement

Our industry partnerships are a cornerstone of the ELATT experience, connecting students with real-world opportunities, professional mentoring, and hands-on learning. These collaborations bridge the gap between education and employment, ensuring that our students leave with both qualifications and the workplace skills employers value.

We are proud to work with a wide range of partners who support our mission and students. Here are some of the partners highlighted at this year’s celebration:

UBS – A global financial services firm, UBS has partnered with ELATT since 2013, offering mentoring, employability workshops and funding that have opened doors for our students and expanded their opportunities. In 2024, UBS funding enabled over 17,000 hours of learning for young and adult migrants and refugees, with 78 students benefiting from UBS-led career development activities.

Mimecast – A leader in cybersecurity, Mimecast has partnered with ELATT since 2021. In 2024, they funded two full-time Teaching Assistants, supporting more than 20 students with special educational needs and disabilities. Mimecast also delivers workshops and career talks. At the celebration, Nicole Burstein from the MIMEability Employee Resource Group inspired students with a talk on inclusion and neurodiversity. Earlier this year, our students visited the Mimecast office to connect with employees, learn about career paths in technology and cybersecurity, and work on innovative solutions to real-world challenges.

Structure Tone UK – A leading construction and fit-out company, Structure Tone UK has hosted ELATT Sixth Form Business Administration SEND students for work placements, providing first-hand insights into project management, construction, and the diverse career opportunities within the sector. One student reflected:

“I learned the importance of teamwork, attention to detail, and safety in construction. This experience will be valuable whether I pursue a career in construction, engineering, architecture, or project management.”

Why ELATT Sixth Form?
